School Trips to the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic (otherwise known as Czechia) is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations due to its rich and diverse cultural history.

It’s this interesting past which makes the Czech Republic such a popular destination for school trips.  Now a member of the European Union, the country’s immediate past is born out of 40 years’ worth of communist rule and the Velvet Revolution which culminated in 1993. These days, Czechia is a fully developed nation with strong exports and a very bright future - in fact, the development of the country’s business centres makes it a fascinating visit for Business Studies classes.

History students will likely find the Czech Republic mesmerizing. As one example of the country’s rich past, it’s ancient tactically-important location gave rise to around 200 castles. Many with beautiful architecture and imposing spires, Czechia is regarded as having the highest concentration of these structures in the world.

Meanwhile, it’s capital city - Prague - is nicknamed ‘city of a hundred spires’ and is renowned for its enchanting  old town, supreme architecture, and appealing culture. Straight away, students will be struck by the contrast of old meets new as they see how quickly a medieval district can merge into a modern metropolis.

Yet, the Czech Republic doesn’t just appeal to history academics, those studying art or music are in for a treat as well. The host nation of choice for many of Europe’s cultural events, Prague has a wealth of theatres, concert halls, and music venues. It also holds regular festivals which are always worth seeing.

Consistently one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations, the Czech Republic provides students with opportunities to experience a country of contrasts. The lessons learnt from this amazing nation will likely last a lifetime and should inspire your students to seek more from Europe.
