Event overview

Expert speaker presentations - through real life experiences our speakers will give students the chance to hear how mathematics can be used to develop models of real situations and learn that they can be more or less effective depending on the assumptions that have been made.

Q&A session - interactive question and answer sessions will develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts. 

Team park challenges - enable students to select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems and interpret mathematical information to reach conclusions within a unique learning environment.

Rik Ferguson (24th February only)

One of the leading experts in cybersecurity, Rik Ferguson is the Vice President of Security Research at Trend Micro. He is frequently interviewed by the BBC, CNN, Channel 4, Sky News and Al-Jazeera English and is quoted by national newspapers and trade publications around the world.  Rik’s research into the murky world of cybercrime and the cloudy future of technology sees him advise law enforcement, governments and large enterprises alike. He is a Special Advisor to Europol’s European Cyber Crime Centre (EC3) and an advisor to the European Union. 

Rik is actively engaged in research into online threats and the underground economy. He also researches the wider implications of new developments in the Information Technology arena and their impact on security, both in the enterprise and for society as a whole, publishing papers, articles, videos and participating in thought-leadership initiatives.

Rik is internationally renowned for his eye-opening and informative presentations, and with his 25 years’ experience in information security will be able to give your students real insight into the world of cybersecurity.

 

Catherine Achieng (3rd & 24th February)

Catherine is a passionate UX designer with a strong drive for creativity and innovation. She has accumulated years of experience working for prestigious agencies and companies like Barclays, where she honed her skills in crafting visually appealing and seamlessly functional user interfaces. Catherine is the proud founder of Dezignovate, an app that seeks to revolutionise the learning, networking, and inspiration landscape for designers.

Catherine will be able to give your students insight into the relationship between a UX designer and businesses, including how she designs for an inclusive future.

Liv Little - Facilitator

Liv is a writer and broadcaster and the founder of the magazine ‘gal-dem’, that provided a platform for stories about female and non-binary people of colour. Her work spans journalism, audio, TV and curatorial projects for which she’s received various accolades, including LGBTQI+ Broadcaster of The Year and Rising Star at Wow. 

Liv has fronted projects for multiple brands including Absolut, Squarespace, Links of London, MAC, Samsung and Google. She has also partnered with a number of fashion houses such as Ganni, Chloé and Clavin Klein.

Liv is most at peace in nature, and she now lives by the sea. Her debut novel, Rosewater, was published in April 2023 (Dialogue).

Liv will feature as Facilitator for Computing LIVE! on 24th February only.

Olly Turnbull (24th February only)

Andrew Davis

Andrew’s philosophy has always been to ‘put a digital lens across traditional business practices’, which is why he became an early adopter in Generative AI and has delivered talks, or workshops, to several organisations who are already achieving results from his advice. 

Andrew has worked with organisations such as Sony PlayStation, The Royal Mail, Ogilvy, Dyson, FIFA, and the BBC to connect with their audiences through content, strategic thinking and simple frameworks. With over 23 years’ experience to pull from and seeing the birth and growth of different mediums such as social media, targeted advertising and smart phones, he will share with your students his expertise about the potential of Generative AI, how it naturally fits within his teachings in Marketing and how it can be used to help grow a business.
